6 fun, educational & free virtual tours you can do at home
Every Wednesday, Top Ryde City will release a new collection of fun, easy and creative at-home activity inspiration that the whole family can enjoy. We hope these activities keep you entertained and learning during this time!
Despite having to spend more time indoors, there’s still plenty of educational and fun virtual tours and programs that allow the entire family to feel as though they’re still adventuring and exploring the world during this time of social distancing.
For the explorer at heart, local parks, art galleries and world-renowned museums are providing free virtual tours for everyone to enjoy.
So what are you waiting for? We can’t think of a better way to whirl away the time.
Here are six of our favourite that are not to be missed:
With access to over 2,500 museums, Google Arts & Culture is a great resource for any art fan. You can find comprehensive tours of popular destinations like the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and London's Tate Modern, or if its specific artists you seek, why not take a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, or check the Rembrandt exhibit or stop through to see the Van Gogh Museum.
Google coming to the rescue again, the US National Parks Service allows you to follow park rangers through some of America’s most stunning terrains, such as the Alaskan Glaciers and Utah's Bryce Canyon. There’s always Google’s street-view feature too, which allows you to check out panoramic views of iconic sites such as London’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
For those of you who love art, but hate the establishment, the Google Art Project, street art feature allows you to tour some of the world’s best graffiti. Travel from Buenos Aires, to Malmo, Melbourne and New York, all from the comfort of your sofa.
Go deep sea diving
Thanks to the National Marine Sanctuaries, virtual diving is now a thing, giving you the access to explore the blue depths of some of the world’s largest oceans. For real-time adventures, check out the The Nature Conservatory Australia to see live feeds of the coral reef marine life they take care of.
Explore outer space
Feeling a little more adventurous? Why settle for an international trip when you can take an outer space tour! Teaming up with Google, NASA currently offers 3D tours which offer a replica insight to some of our favourite planets like Mars.
See some animals
In need of some furry company? Thankfully outdoor zoos like the San Diego Zoo, the Brisbane-based Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary or the Taronga Zoo all offer live webcam viewings or virtual trips through Google Street Maps for sightings of their natural wildlife.
