Five ways to have fun this winter

Five ways to have fun this winter

With the first bite of frost, many a Sydney-siders will be looking to stay warm and toasty through the winter months. For most, this equates to days and nights spent hibernating at home, and in front of the heater.

But just because the temperature drops, doesn’t mean your activity levels have to as well! We’ve compiled an abundance of activities to keep you entertained, and active, through the winter months.

1. Catch a movie

Buttery popcorn, delicious hot chocolate, and the latest Hollywood blockbuster is the perfect recipe for a winter’s day or night. Whether you’re taking the whole family or having a date night for two, settling in for a movie is a great way to get out of the house and stay warm.

2. Work up a sweat with laser tag

Get the blood pumping with a fun-filled afternoon of laser tag! A great idea for kids parties, families and groups of friends, laser tag will test you agility, strategy and hide-and-seek skills. It’s also a fun way to sneak some exercise into your week.

3. Shop ‘til you drop

For the fashionistas, there’s no better way to spend the weekend or a Thursday night than wandering through the shops. Whether you’re just there to take in the latest trends while window shopping or you’ve got a long list of items on your wish list, gathering a group of friends for a day of shopping is a great way to spend some quality time together, indoors!

We all know shopping can be exhausting, so take time out to get a manicure or pedicure. Make a day of it by stopping for a long lunch.

4. Dine out

If you find it too cold to leave the house during the day, maybe the idea of a warm, hearty dinner will entice you outside? Make plans with family and friends to go out and try a new restaurant once a week, this is a great way to explore new suburbs and catch up with friends you don’t get to see often.

Keep an eye out for dining precincts around Sydney that are equipped with wind breaks and heaters to keep you warm so you, your family and friends can enjoy alfresco dining all year round.

5. Spend a day in

If you can’t be coaxed outdoors, maybe you’re more interested in cooking a hearty meal at home?

Nothing says winter like a slow-cooked dish, simmered lovingly for hours, ready to eat when you are. Think beef bourguignon, chick pea and chicken curry, lamb shanks melting off of the bone…

Or get crafting. Visit a craft shop and stock up on all the bibs and bobs you need to keep you creative throughout the colder months.
