Top Ryde City: Top Four Festive Family Activities to Try
Go on an adventure
There’s nothing quite like the memory-making moments enjoyed on a road trip with the whole family in tow. From packing a picnic basket and exploring the picturesque surrounds of the Blue Mountains, to driving out for a day of sun and swimming at the beach, road trips are an experience enjoyed by all.
However, road trips take time to organise, and many families may be in shortage of a spare moment during the festive season. The antidote is to recreate these moments locally.
Can’t plan a camping trip? No problem! Deck the backyard out with sleeping bags, fire up the BBQ and spend a night under the stars. If the beach is a little too far, a day at the local pools with the kids (and plenty of ice cream) can be just as fun.
Get crafty for Christmas
Decorating the home always adds a touch of magic to the festive season. This year, why not get the whole family involved in a D.I.Y crafting session - something the kids will adore!
Consider creating a snowy wreath, filled with decorative flowers, spray painted white berries, and sparkling pine cones dusted in glitter.
The kids will also love building a centrepiece snowman, complete with black button eyes, a carrot nose and a top hat made from cardboard and felt.
Add an extra wintery element with a D.I.Y fireplace. You’ll need a sheet of canvas, some black, orange and yellow paint, chalk, thread and a hook. Paint the canvas black and create an outline of a fireplace in chalk. Get the kids to help paint in the fire, and hang by using your thread and hook. Your D.I.Y fireplace is also a great place to hang your stockings, ready for Christmas day.
Spend the day indoors
Spend a day doing a myriad of activities that can be enjoyed by both young and old, all under one roof. Watch the latest blockbuster at Event Cinemas, followed by a heart-pumping round of laser tag at Laser Mania. Or, for a special treat, gather friends and family and book a Monkey Mania themed party room for an afternoon of bouncing on inflatable jumping castles, and slipping down slides.
Round out the afternoon with a meal filled with culinary delights available at our dining precinct. There'll be roving entertainment throughout the festive season, too.
Or, to get in the Christmas spirit, why not gather the kids to have their photo taken with Santa who’ll be visiting Top Ryde City up until Christmas Eve?!
Watch the fireworks
Nothing says festive season more than watching the spectacular light display during New Year’s Eve. Sydney’s CBD is sure to put on a show, but it can be daunting for families to spend the morning trying to find parking and keeping the kid’s entertained and well-fed until the first display at 9 pm. Instead, keep things a little more local by watching the fireworks from Clarke’s Point. Or, for a fun-filled NYE experience visit Top Ryde City’s Piazza precinct.
There will be face painting, balloon bending, outdoor games, a magic show and a kid’s disco followed at 9pm by the Family Fireworks on the outdoor screen to make welcoming 2019 all the merrier.
Here’s a quick list of adventure-fuelled activities to make your festive season both merry and bright!
